This year's event is being presented in partnership with the Center for Great Plains Studies on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and will be held in the Great Plains Art Museum.
Mari Sandoz, 1896-1966, is celebrated for her histories of the Native Americans and homesteaders living on the High Plains. The Mari Sandoz Heritage Society’s annual Pilster Lecture and Symposium on September 23rd and 24th will address her life in the various places she called home as well as her ground-breaking research and writing methods.
Program Highlights Include:
The Annual Pilster Great Plains Lecture will be presented by Shannon Smith, Executive Director Emeritus of the Wyoming Humanities Council and will take place on Thursday, September 23rd from 3:30 to 5:00 PM
The Sandoz Symposium on Friday, September 24th will run from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NOON and will feature-
- Mari Sandoz and Her Cities with presentations by Jamison Wyatt on Mari’s time of residence in Lincoln; Dr. Meg Frisbee on Mari’s years in Denver; Dr. Elaine Marie Nelson on Mari’s long residence in New York City.
- Mari’s Groundbreaking Research and Writing in the West presented by Dr. Jillian Wenburg
- Mari and Hollywood presented by Dr. David Nesheim
- Special presentation by the 2020-2021 Sandoz Scholar, Broc Anderson
